RTE a week to my wedding

Irish sweethearts Brendan and Maeve were living in London when they contacted me about photographing their wedding in Tiernaur, County Mayo. It wasn’t until the last week when they found out they were to have a tv show about their wedding- a new series on RTE One called ‘A Week to my Wedding’ was to follow them each day on the final lead up to their big day. This was all very exciting and, funnily enough, not my first time being involved with a specilaised wedding TV program- a number of years ago I had worked on a BBC show called ‘Wedding Stories’ back in 2006.

Well the big day came and it soon became clear that this was a full on TV crew with 7 of them in attendance at the church, keeping two huge cameras and two sound men with long booms out of shot at the alter was a challenge but… I love a challenge! It was a great ceremony led by Fr. Declan, and I had been warned of something special happening with hurley’s at the door which the newlyweds were unaware of. I was really happy with the shot I managed to capture above of them coming through the tunnel with big smiles on their faces, happily so were they and a number of other media outlets as it was printed in a number of newspapers, the RTE guide and some leading online sites. I even got credited on the show as stills photographer which was nice!

After the ceremony we went to Rosturk Castle for our location shots, it was a beautiful day with the sun beaming down. We took our photos around the castle and then moved on to one of Maeve’s neighbour’s raised gardens that overlooked Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay and went for a different feel of shot there.
